I tried something like this the other day; I thought "why is this stupid
thing here anyway?"
So I propped it against the wall and off I went. Here's what I noticed:
-On the freeway, the road/wind/ambient noise is noticeably louder
-Standing outside the car when it's idling, you can hear an unhealthy
ticking noise (my fault, and it's fixed now, but the cover muffled the
noise a lot)
Then I drove in the rain, and next time I opened the hood, the entire
engine bay, bottom up, including the top of the engine and the hood pad,
were covered in mud. DOH!
So it does do something, I guess. It's much easier to put on if the car
is jacked up a few inches.
