5KTQ Jolts at about 5000 RPM's

   I just picked up an '86 5KTQ It seems a bit quicker then my buddies '89 
200, I'm not sure if the previous owner did any mods on it because I bought 
it at an estate sale and he is no longer with us. ($1500CDN) I've noticed my 
car kind of dies when reach about 5000RPM's when I'm giving it a bit, it 
only does it for a split second and when I push on the clutch pedal or shift 
gears it is fine again till I reach 5 grand. I've noticed it in all the 
gears. Does this sound like the fuel cutoff is doing it's work? I'm not sure 
what the boost is at when this problems occurs because my guage is all 
wonky. I'm thinking that he maybe fiddled with the wastegate and never 
bothered doing any computer mods. Could someone please give me their 
thoughts on this?
