Removing Steering Rack from RHD Audi 100 (1989)

I'm halfway through removing a steering rack from a UK spec RHD 1989 Audi
Avant.  I'm having great difficulty getting to the hydraulic connections to
undo them.  Even if I manage to get those off, I don't think I'll be able to
remove the rack through the apperture in the wheel arch as there are LOTS of
brake bipes etc. in the way.  Any BTDT?

The Haynes Manual gives it a three spanner rating (meaning medium
difficulty) and their description makes the whole operation look quite
trivial.  I've done five-spanner jobs that were easier!

The Bently makes no mention of removing the rack (it would be for LHD
anyway).
