I have the Audi mechanics training booklet for the S4, and it describes the
entire Xe installation. Because Xe lights are prone to dazzling oncoming
traffic, the law here in Europe requires these lights to be continuously
aimed electrically according to load, road orientation, speed etc. For this
purpose, Audi has installed a couple of sensors (three, if I recall
correctly) and a number of pickup points on other senders. This setup sends
corrections to the motors aiming the lights several times a minute, more
frequent at higher speeds.

What I think you have is either a projector setup (excellent light and a
lot easier and cheaper to install) or a sort of 'halfway' solution with the
Xe lights but not the aiming equipment. Looking at the Euro A4 wiring
diagrams, I know the Xe sensor wiring is not in place in the 'lesser'
non-Xe-equipped models. I think (can't find my copy of the S4 options list)
that Xe is optional here, and projectors are standard.
