I paid a visit to a local garage that sells american cars and was rather
impressed by a 1977 red corvette. It had mirror T tops, 350 ci (5.7 litre)
chevvy engine, aircon and really did look good inside and out.
Took it for a test drive and was impressed by its acceletation considering
it was an auto. Handleing is appauling by quattro standards, the back end
slid out on most corners but I found it good fun to drive.
I'm trying to think of the good and bad points of owning a car like this.
The good points are its looks, performance, very cheap parts (after
looking on the net), no rust as it is fiberglass, cheap insurance 150 gbp
fully comp!
Fuel economy is a worry I was told between 15 to 20 mpg does this sound
about right? What about reliability it looked simple enough cast iron
block and heads, carburetter and simple ignition system.
Are these cars any good, will maintenance and reliability be better than
my Ur. Please let me know if I am being daft considering a corvette.
Thanks
