By disconnecting it you're removing it from the "loop".  It will not get
energised again until the ignition is turned off then back on.  I have a
bad idle controller in my '84 5KS that causes it to idle at 1500, I put a
defogger switch in the line that disconnects the ISV from inside the car.
 Impossible to find a stick '84 5KS in boneyards, and dealer wanted more
than $100 for a rebuilt controller.  I posted the wiring etc. to the
Qlist at the time, probably stil in the ether somewhere if anyone is
interested.
