True dat!
We have a Ford Exporer and we tried to return the Firestone Wilderness tires
it came with in the recal. We were denied. Apparently our tires were made
in the Canadian plant, and they have had zero defects with those tires. The
problematic tires were coming from a plant in Illinios, where they were
having serious labor problems. Plagued with strikes and other problems, they
had to bring in temporary help. In many of the tires that had blowouts they
found that a crutial part of the tire production (some sort of layer) was
left out completely!
There will be much litigation, a large class action lawsuit (supreme court
level) in which I'm sure Firestone will be claimed as negligent and have to
pay out a large sum of money and that tire company will be one for the
history books. Stick a fork in them, cause they're done.
Bridgestone, however, is a Japanese company who (in my opinion) makes very
good tires, and bought Firestone a few years ago to try to turn the fleggling
company around. Bridgestone is the parent company. I just think Bridgestone
should write off Firestone and keep thier name out of this whole mess. That
would be wise anyways. This is a PR nightmare, and Firestone's name is
getting dragged through the coals. The worst part is I cringe everytime I
hear them refer to themselves as the Bridgestone-Firestone company every time
the make a press announcement. Don't they have any PR guys with any
brains??? Oh, well, thier call.
Later,
Dan
