5k tranny conversion

Manual transmissions were available on the FWD type 44s ... my brother has a
1984 sedan and an '88 Avant, both non-turbo, non-quattro 5-speeds.  I hear
that there is a turbo 5-speed at a Pick-N-Pull in San Jose too.  BTW, his
'79 5000 had a stick as well.  

I don't know about gear ratios and half shafts, but I'd imagine that a
tranny from a 5-cylinder Coupe would bolt onto the 5000's engine too ... no
BTDT, so I may be wrong there ...
