One point,
Cutting in the middle reduces wheelbase and thus breakover angle. Cutting off the trunk reduces departure angle, hence the dragging trunk. For his purpose, what would shortening the wheelbase do, he'll still drag the trunk but even more so as when transitioning to a hill the car will then have a steeper angle of Attack and will drag more.
TO visualize this pick up a 4x4 magazine with a Off Road competition in it. Look at a CJ-5 or even a wrangler going up a rock compared to a Jeep Cherokee or GC or a Pickup. NOtice the steeper angle of the Short Jeeps? Same effect, but they get away with it by having almost no rear overhang.

a friend of mine was annoyed last winter about dragging the trunk of his
4k on the snow banks up app. gap in VT. He wanted to cut the trunk
off. I suggested cutting the passenger area in the back seat out (sport
4k). He thought that if we cut the car he would end up with two halves of
a quattro and nothing more.
