this could be so many things...bad compression, fuel issue, ignition
problem, cam/ignition timing...

First I'd check the compression, low compression will make an engine limp.
Check ignition for spark and condition of plugs. The plugs can tell you of
rich or lean mixture. Injectors need to be replaced every 60-80k miles for
proper running. Make sure this has been done. You will likely have hot
start problems if you have leaky injectors. Could just be a fuel filter. My
mom's Taurus just died on her b/c of a clogged filter, the filter was about
3000 miles old! Could be a vacc. leak too. Check your warm-reg. too. These
often go bad, and make it real hard to start cold and can cause other
probs. Check it by testing for 12v at it's harness and 17-21 ohms for the
reg. itself. But the real test is using a fuel psi gauge and watching it
rise as the temp goes up. It could be any of these problems and combination
of many. If you think it's fuel problems, an Air-fuel gauge connected to
the O2 sensor will really help you eliminate problems. This gauge tells you
everything you want to know about the mixture, b/c you can find out what's
happening at all different operating conditions. Hooking it up is real easy
and just mount it anywhere. You can get one for $25 or so from JCW or a
nice one from autogauge for under $50. The problems on these cars are
usually simple to fix, but are hard to diagnose w/o a few simple tools and
some sort of manual. good luck. let us know what you find out.
