Deep or normal depth sockets?

Hi,

My odd tool collection is coming along nicely, but now I need a set of
sockets for my air impact wrench.

Which is best: Normal depth sockets or the extra-deep sockets? Any
reason why I should get a set of standard depth sockets in place of deep
sockets?

Just asking as a set of Metwrinch tool-steel deep sockets goes for
around $90 and the normal depth Metwrinch units go for $70. There are 14
or 15 sockets in each set, same sizes, and they act like a set of 48
metric and imperial sockets 'cos of the Metwrinch design. I assume the
deep ones are more practical. The prices match a set of say 20-25
sockets, but the Metwrinch has no joints or extensions in the sets.

Why is it so difficult to find a 22mm extra-deep socket?!? I have a 2
week wait to get these! Gedore supplier says it's special order from
Germany, so it's a 6 week wait! I can find a 21mm, 23mm, and 24mm, but
no 22mm. So I bought a 7/8" socket. Just big enough to nicely round off
a 22mm nut. :( Even oxygen sensor sockets have never been heard of over
here and it's a 4 week wait to get them from the Hazet supplier. Just
trying to do my work "by the book". :)

PS: Would it be wise to use chrome-vanadium type sockets on an
airwrench, in place of the usual tool-steel stuff?
