Karl -
Took the day off yesterday and tackled the leaking hydraulic pressure hose
on my 93 100CSQ Avant. Job went very well. I had purchased a banjo bolt
that requires the two aluminum crush washers, not knowing if the O-ring was
installed as OEM. I can report that the O-ring was not used. Made sense to
have one on hand just in case the o-ring bolt was different from the
aluminum washer version. Purchased hose from German Parts and Restoration
in San Luis Obispo, Ca. Appears to be a well made hose. About $60.00 less
than dealer price. In hindsight, I would disable the car for a couple of
days and get a hydraulic shop to make one up.
Instead of using the rubber band trick, I used a coating of grease on the
banjo bolt and crush washers. Worked well. Also, once I broke free the
banjo bolt, I was able to reach in from the left of the
two heat exchanger hoses and unscrew the bolt with my fingers. Same routine
when installing. Only needed the 19 mm wrench to tighten connection. I
took your advice Karl and purchased a long 19 mm wrench. I could not reach
in between the vacuum booster and those two hoses. It is just too, tight !
I also used the opportunity to pump out the old black pentosin oil from the
reservoir with a hand operated vacuum pump. Cleaned the filter screen with
a little gasoline and refilled with clean green pentosin. I am surprised
that Audi does not recommend changing this oil periodically in their
maintenance schedule.
Many thanks to Karl Nitz for the excellent advice he gave me on doing this
job.
Rear brakes and Oxygen sensors next.
