Stuck Accelerator on V8 - reminscent of 007

Hi.

My V8 has started a nasty habit of a sticking accelerator It happended
to me when I was out in the open country with no traffic. (Believe me
when I tell you a stuck accelerator in a V8 is not what I would consider
a good time) To make a very long story short I wound up killing the
ignition and coasting the car to a stop after accelerating
uncontrollably (and quickly I might add) past the legal speed limit. It
was interesting to note that lifting the accelerator back up with my
foot did not stop the engine from racing. Once stopped, I was able to
reset the accelerator from under the hood and nursed the car home.

Before towing the car to the dealership to have this repaired I was
curious if this phenonmenon was related to the outstanding cruise
control recall on the car? Second, has anyone else out there
experienced the same phenonmenon? It acts like something is interfering
with the return of the accelerator. I checked out what I could short of
removing the intake to trace the throttle mechanism to the fron of the
engine. I tried lubing the spring loaded armature under the air-cleaner
at the back of the engine to no avail. It acts like the throttle has
either:

a flat spot where where the accelator sticks
a non-linear/non-functioning spring tensioner
or combination of the two.

Since this has occured, I have not driven the car. While checking this
out over the weekend have observed the accelarator doesn't feel right
now and have noticed the car now "bounces" at idle between 800-1500 RPM.
I have never had a problem with the car before as this problem developed
out of the blue. I have no plans to drive the car until the dealer
check it out.

Would be curious to hear if anyone else has experinced this phenomenon
and what was done to repair it. I would also like to know if this could
be related to the Cruise Recall. Thanks

Mark
