A3/S3, US?

I've read in the past that Audi is planning to introduce the A3 to the US at
sometime in the next couple of years.  Is this still in the works?  Was it
ever? :-)

This raises some interesting questions.  First -- is there an S3 either in
European production or planned for production?  Second, do we know whether
will the S3 be available in the US?  I have a real soft spot in my head for
hatchback-shaped rocketships...
