I'm posting this for the shop owner where I moonlight doing consumer
electronic repairs. He has a customer with a 1997 A6q with (non-Bose I
gather) an AM reception problem in the OE radio. The noise is white
noise static over the station and is not RPM dependent. The rear
amplified antenna has been replace in an attempt to cure this and is
only "a little better."

Couple questions:

1. Does this car have the dual antennas with one in the windshield and
the other the amplified rear mount one?

2. Are there any common known fixes (deteriorated ground connections,
etc.) that cause this symptom?

3. Has anyone experienced this failur in the head unit itself?

There are no Audi dealers in our area (and to think I just noticed Bruce
Canepa's really cool auto dealership buildings at Water St. are yet
again vacant...anyone flush with IPO cash wanna fund/help start a Santa
Cruz Audi dealership??? No, I'm not joking). Dan's shop is one of the
better respected for being reasonable and honest car Audio places in
town and I would like to try and help him help this Audi quattro
customer if at all possible. Any BTDTs will be greatly appreceated.
Troubleshooting for AM noise really sucks (I'm dealing with the same
thing in my car but non-OE and much older car).
