A3/S3

There will never be an A3/S3 for sale in the States. First of all Audi does
not want anything cutting into it's sales of the A4/S4/A6. Surely the profit
margin of the cheaper A3 would not even justify the trouble of bringing the
car in and selling it  in the North American market. And would there even be
a market for the S3 when there are cheaper Japanese alternatives available?
Even if they did bring the two cars in, they would be typically detuned and
would never produce the power output of the European versions.

A second reason is that the hatchback is either dead or dying in North
America. Witness, Honda's decision to kill the poor selling Civic hatchback
beginning MY01. Even Golf's hatchback sales lag that of the Jetta.
