Andrew,
Here is my take.
You will find these cars with many more miles and still running very well,
providing they have been maintained properly, and the problems that creep up
as the car ages are fixed shortly after they occur.
Regarding the Quattro drivetrain. Although it is commonly thought that
since there are more moving parts in the drivetrain that one will experience
more reliability problems, this is not the case.
For one the Quattro drivetrain is over-engineered as AW/Audi has done for
many years with all of their engine and drivetrain components.
Also, since the load is distributed across the entire drivetrain, all four
wheels that is, there is reduced stress on any one set of components. In
other words, the front wheel drive portion of the system will last longer
than that of an exclusively FWD car.
My personal experience is, the FWD cars experience a cheap clunky feeling at
around 120kmi, and are in need of extensive rebuild. The Quattros I've
driven tend to maintain their sturdy feeling indefinately, requireing an
occasional part to be replaced.

I'm going to test drive a 1993 90 Quattro CS with 165k miles. What do I need
to look for while I inspect it? Are these vehicles reliable? I'm concerned
that with all the moving parts in the drivetrain, it will be unreliable
after
so many miles. Anyone with any input please advise. Thanks in advance.
