'88 5KSQ Brake Master Cylinder Replacement

I've pretty much decided to replace the brake master cylinder on my '88 
5KSQ.  Any BTDTs on this job?

Can I leave the servo in place on the firewall and just unbolt the master 
cylinder from the servo?  2 easy-to-get-at bolts vs. 4 difficult ones.  
What's in there when I take the master cylinder off the servo?
