Hey Q-Heads,
I just replaced my fuel gauge sender with a used one (thanks Nate).
I put it all together, and turned the key on to see if a fuel line would
leak. It wasn't until I started the car that I saw the leak I suspected
would be there.
When I had such a ridiculously difficult time removing the sender, I
ended up really putting alot of torque and stuff on that hose. This
is the main fuel delivery hose, that has a fitting on the end of it for
the banjo bolt.
It looks like the plastic hose is simply pressed onto the metal
fitting. If it was bonded somehow, then I must've broken the bond.
It either just stretched and now leaks, or I may have cracked the
metal sleeve that slides into the hose. I guess it comes down to
my not following the proper sequence of events, and trying to
remove that hose after removing the retaining ring. I was unable to
stabilize the hose while turning the banjo bolt, and ended up
breaking the damn sender by the time I was done. I think it was
already broken when I went totally ape-spit and was just trying to
take out the broken part. Even with the bonded in metal fitting
totally broken free from the sender if it supposed to be part of, I
have a hard time getting it off. That's when I messed up the end of
the fuel line.
Anyhow, where does this hose go? Does it go to a hard line on the
car, or am I blessed with one long hose all the way to the fuel filter
under the hood?
I have another extra hose, the one from the fuel pump to the
sender. This hose also has a banjo bolt end on it. I'm thinking I
may be able to do a repair by doing one of two things.
One method might be to put a small hose clamp on the end of the
hose, and tighten it down on the fitting. I don't know if this would
work, it's difficult to inspect the leak.
The other idea is to just cut the end of my hose off, and splice in
the end of the extra hose, using a short piece of tube or pipe, and
two hose clamps.
I don't mind dropping the tank if I have to to replace the hose. Do I
have to (should I)?
Also, if anyone has this hose, I need one. Please email me with
details.
Thanks,
Ken
