Don't laugh. Though I can't stand looking at the thing because of
the bug-eyed headlights, and I found the interior pretty spartan, the
car is exactly what it was intended to be...a driver's car. It's
quick(MUCH quicker than an S4) and at $24k, 28-29 loaded...the price
is right. There are a lot of interesting accessories, like a rear
diff guard in case you decide to get some extra durability. They
mean business.
I've always thought Audi should make a much more affordable
performance car that doesn't have all the toys, but has the handling
and performance. Ie, a car a lister would buy. Very few people on
the list can afford an S4.
Guess what. Subaru did just exactly what I'm talking about;. The
WRX is basically a spartan S4 in every department except performance,
and it's at a reasonable price range.
Isn't that what we all like about the older audis? Not necessarily
loaded with the latest gizmos, but the performance and price is right?
I personally wish they took the time and effort to get the
variable-valve timing engine through emissions. After all, everybody
else is doing it and passing emissions just fine...
