antenna booster? Help

Lister's,  I am having trouble with radio reception.  Horrible AM reception, 
so much static I can not tell what I am listing to, and very poor FM 
reception though much better than AM.  I believe it is the antenna booster / 
amp. I have a '90 200 TQA. Has anyone had similar problems?  Where is the 
antenna booster located in a 200 avant?  The radio checks out OK. Thanks
