If you just want the blower, take it out the end. I
wouldn't NOT change the heater core if I were keeping
the car more than 10 minutes. It only cost me about
$40. and it's a real pain to take that box out. The
flaps can be a little tricky. You can make a nice jig
just like Bentley shows out of cardboard. This helped
me the first time. I renewed the foam seals on my
flaps with some different stuff from some HVAC
contractors I know. I used rope caulk to seal the box
halves. I used closed cell foam strip (3/4" x 1/2"?)
to seal the box to the body. As for the blower the
squirrel cage wheel presses off the shaft. I used a
20 ton press and just went real easy and they come
right off. The brushes are "generic". I got them at
a hardware store/tool repair place. Just sorted
through some boxes. They should be slighty oversized,
probably in 1 dimension. File or sand them to size.
You should unsolder and uncrimp the old brush tails
from the housing. This was the hardest part for me,
but once I did the first one they were pretty easy
after that. I heated and cleared some solder,
uncrimped them and then heated it again and pulled the
tails out and cleaned the area again with a brass
"toothbrush". Total time should be about 10-30 mins.
per brush to size/remove/clean/install. I paid about
$1. something for the brushes. The bearing is also
cheap. I think it was about $3. something, but I
wanted a German one. FAG or Fafnir I think. I think
the guy said a Taiwan one was about $2. I don't
remember the size but 16mm x 24mm x 6mm sounds
familiar. Don't quote me on that. I spent the most
time working on the airbox seals/sealing. So far both
systems on my cars work great and I haven't heard on
any problems with the other blower motors I did.(and I
WOULD have heard if they had problems!)
HTH and good luck!
