monkey lads again

Further to the seemingly incurable and ever ongoing woes of the GM-based
"climate control system" we are afflicted with in our beloved type 44s,
last spring I had a local A/C shop replace the compressor and recharge
(ha!) the air conditioner, and it worked almost two full weeks.

Yesterday, I adjusted the alternator belt, and figured I'd check the A/C
compressor mounts for tightness because I was there anyway, and I was NOT
the last person to work on those parts.

My mistrust of monkey lads turned out to be well founded. One bolt was
tight, one was loose, the 1/4" thick steel upper bracket was BROKEN OFF,
and the bottom mount (comes off the lower front of the oil pan) was
stripped out, with the bolt bent and threads destroyed, and of course all
the threads in the aluminum long gone. Son of a B*T*H!

Fortunately, these bits are cheap and available at the local pick-n-pull.
Also fortunately (for him) the so called "mechanic", whose business card
proclaims "you have a friend in the business" appears to have left town. If
I ever catch him, those parts are going to hurt like hell when he tries to
take them back out . . .

Best Regards,

Mike Arman
