Seriously for sale: 1986 4000 CS quattro/turbo
I need space in the driveway. This car would be a wonderful toy for an Audi
nut (such as myself) and I've thoroughly enjoyed constructing and owning it
for 5 years. Many, many grins contained herein.
What it is (the good):
1986 4000 CS quattro (Red/grey) with 198000 miles.
KH motor swap including stock IC behind grille (custom core support work).
IA Computer mod.
Analog boost gauge in dash, battery in trunk.
Bilsteins/Coil over kit with custom top bearing (fits better than Ground
Control/2B part) and stiffer springs (I don't remember the rates). Great
handling. No body lean, quick turn-in, and pretty neutral.
2 sets of pads/rotors - stock and Hawk. Trust me, this is all the braking
this car will ever need. No need for a brake swap - no fade and all the grip
you could ever want.
All diff locks work perfectly. This car is fast on dry pavement and an
absolute machine in the snow. Nothing goes better in the winter, and it's
much quicker off the line than my 1990 Porsche 911.
Power windows all work, power locks all work, rear defroster works, the
gauges all work.
Also: 3 sets wheels: 2 Stock sets (1 w/street tires and 1 w/Kumho V700s with
1 event) and 1 set steels with Hakka 1s.
Euro headlight conversion with separate relays and feed for each bulb. 100/85
bulbs installed.
I'll even throw in an almost new K24 that I bought, but never got around to
installing.
What this car is not:
Beautiful (it looks like a stock red 4000 quattro, with some minimal body
rust, oxidized paint, etc. The only visual clue are 2 hood pins - it even has
the stock exhaust including cat)
A daily driver (it occasionally {1 day out of 10} doesn't want to start, but
will eventually respond to gentle persuasion)
The drivers seat is broken - one upright side is snapped
3 of 4 door handles work - replaced a year or so ago
It needs some TLC - one front bearing is making some noise, and I think one
CV may be close as well.
No air conditioning
I'd love to see this car at a quattro club event - I've driven it on the
track once and it was a blast. I'm sure it would also be ideal for autocross,
although I've never done one. It would need a new drivers seat and some other
minor love to get it there. I already have a track car, and don't need 2. Too
many projects, not enough time.
First $3000 takes it. The car is in Harvard, MA and can be driven by serious
buyers. Please don't waste what little free time I have these days, though.

Michael Lawton
