Uh, the sulfur content was reduced several years ago, which helps explain
the price increase of Diesel fuel.
However, speaking from experience, many Mercedes Benz dealers don't like to
service Diesel engines. A major service for a Diesel engine Benz cost less
than it's Gas engine brother. And, there have been many design changes on
the Oil Motor is the past few years, and technicans must be schooled for
these changes. Guess who has to send the tech to school.....and pay for it,
in addition to losing a line technican's service ability for several days?
Also, today's automobile consumer wants a real quiet car, and chooses a high
end stereo option. He/she wants a great sounding stereo, but a quiet
engine.......go figure!!
The true Mercedes Benz Diesel enthusiast very often services his own car.
He buys oil and filters by mail order. MB dealers don't like this. He/she
drives the Diesel car damn near a zillion miles before selling. MB dealers
don't like this either. They want YOU to trade every few years. MB dealers
want you to lease a car; they get to sales pitch you in a few years..

Does it explain how little 'ol Volkswagen can do it, and does it explain why
Mercedes, with considerable experience in building Diesel motors for ships,
submarines, trucks, tanks, Air ships, power generators and
automobiles....cannot pass the US standards?
