Two Speed Radio

Hi there listers!
It looks like the gremlins have worked their way into my radio.  When turned
on, it will either produce 85-90% of full volume at one button press away
from zero volume.  Rather disconcerting, hearing that damn telephone ringing
for a couple of hours after getting out of the car.  I can't carry a tune to
save my life, so I tried removing the radio and cleaning the volume
buttons - still no dice.  The buttons still work (yep, it has buttons, not a
dial), and will control the volume from the 85% point to full blast (ugh!),
but on the way back down, it drops to zero and beeps (indicating the bottom
of the range) immediately after that 85% point.  I'd almost say its a
software problem (ie - chuck it), but the other day when it started this, it
went back to behaving after a few minutes, then returned to blasting after
about 20 minutes of normal volume.
Anybody BTDT?
