I think there'a lot more difference:

255/40-17 = 635.8mm OD
225/45-17 = 634.3mm OD
215/55-16 = 642.9mm OD

225/55-17 = 679.3mm OD

If my conversion's correct, there's almost 4cm difference to 215/55-16,
ain't there?
