Carl,
I have a Schrick 272 solid lifter cam in my '83 CGT. Although this
would be a slightly different cam than you would use (since you have
hydraulic lifters) I highly recommend this cam for spirited daily driving /
autocross, even at it's $500 price tag. You can get similar cams at about
50-60% of that price through other sources.

I also have an adjustable cam sproket which is also well worth the
investment IMO. I run 2 degrees of retard with it right now. Of couse,
that's with a milled head so actual retard is probably a bit different than
that... The nice thing is you can play with it easily and find the right
setting for your driving style.

I have no problems with idle, etc.. with the cam & pulley. I thought
idle suffered when I first installed the cam, but I discovered that was due
to an improperly reconnected vacuum hose and not the cam.

I also had the car emissions tested last week and passed with flying
colors with the above setup.

I run a K&N filter, which I believe might be a slight improvement over
stock, but probably not much. I can't comment on the Jamex airbox though
from lack of experience with it...

You should also upgrade your valve springs at the same time if you get
a higher lift cam - otherwise you may bind your stock valve springs.
