This may sound strange and far fetched to all of you but this actually does
kind of work. I first tried this to fill in the small pits in my 18 year old
windshield. I had some Meguiars(tm) cleaner wax and I basically decided to
wax my windshield. The dry time is longer on glass and it helps to make sure
it is completely dry before you rub it off. When I was done the pits seemed
to be nicely filled in and much less noticeable in direct sunlight. As an
added bonus the winshield became very smooth which caused water to bead up on
it and even at low speeds the water would roll to the sides and top. I've
never noticed it smearing, it just eventually wears off. Might try it on
your car before you try it on a Coast Guard vessel though.

Cheers,
