steering rack

I am going to attempt to put my new steering rack in.  If someone that has
changed a rack before wants to email me offlist to go through all the steps
of this process so I do it the the right way, I would be very grateful.
The rack is going into a 1984 4ksq.

I am not a mechanic nor have I studied Audi design, so whomever writes
please right at a basic level.  I could probably figure it out but what is
the fun in that.
