Actually, they probably do and with good cause. I have seen all sorts of
efforts produced by 'trained' assembly line works over the years. In one
case it was a fluid check valve that had been fitted backwards even though
the flow direction arrow was obviously pointing in the opposite direction to
all the others. I've seen over-sized parts forced into place, under-sized
parts packed out with shims. I have at times assumed that what I was looking
at was the result of deliberate sabotage because I couldn't believe that
anybody could be _that_ stupid - but they can be. Now I deal with software
designers and they can be just as bad.
British Leyland used to have a wonderful vehicle hidden away which had been
returned from a dealer because of what was found during a pre-deliver check.
It had been built when the brake design was changed from front drums to
discs and had made its way out of the factory with a drum on the left and a
disc on the right.
