type44- will 5kT auto tranny work in NA 5k?

I'm running a turbo trans in my 84 5kS.

No troubles at all.....frankly, I can't notice any driving differences between the two, other than my "new" one has a reverse gear!

The turbo trans. from a 85 turbo 5000 is different in the following:

  1. It has four planetary gears instead of three.

  2. The torgue converter had a different stall speed
plus the turbo one has a four bolt hookup instead of
         three for the flex plate.

  3. I think the clutch disks are smaller in earlier turbo trans.

  4. The valve assembly has different valves in it because
it has different shift points than a NA engine.

  5. The bellhousing has notches in for the RPM and Speed
          sensors.

  6. The rear gear ratio is different.

If you can live with the above it will work . The only thing you need is
the flex plate from the turbo.

  Hope this helps.
