Hmmm.
I will have to disagree on Most all of these cars
that were selected-
A) the VW bus? come on- 2 million hippies can't be
wrong- Seriously, a bus is cheap, reliable and got
better fuel mileage than any other vehicle in its
class for almost 40 years. Not to mention it's off
road abilties, or it's traction in snow (engine over
the rear tires)
B) although AMC should have some cars in the top 10,
the Gremilin is not one of them. It was built like a
brick shithouse and has the most reliable engine of
any american car - the straight 6
C) The Renault Dauphine? who the hell ever owned one
of them? they probably sold a total of 100 in the
states-
D)Cadillac Cimarron? it's just an "upscale" version of
the cavalier. Not a milestone to say the least, but
surely not one of the top ten worlds worst cars.
E) the renault LeCar- the R5- Actully made the top ten
Of Motor trends "top ten cars ever produced" at one
time Bullet
proof, excellent milege, and the turbo version has won
alot of pro rally and SCCA events -
F) I'll agree with the Pinto- Truly an engineering
feat! Gotta love a fuel tank located right behind the
rear bumper- *Kaboom!!*
My personal ten worst cars-
10-Lincoln Navigator-
Who the Hell needs one of these? Comeon- the thing
is 30 feet long, and gets 10 mpg. Anyone seen driving
one generally has more Money than brains.
9)Oldmobile Deisel- 5.7l late 70's early 80's
GM's attempt at a Deisel auto- Was so bad that an
executive who had purchased one had his Helicoptered
to the top of GM's Engineering facilty, painted bright
yellow, with the words "lemon" written all over it.
8)Chevrolet Corvette- late 70's
The baseline model had a 305 engine with 155 hp.
0-60 times were worse than ever (13.0 sec to 60) and
build quility was not anywhere near what you paid
for.Couldn't even chirp the tires. Ahhh.... the Oil
Imbargo days...
7) Chevrolet Chevette Diesel-
Another attempt By GM to produce a Diesel car- this
time using Isuzu diesel mechanicals,. not one ever
made it to 100,000 miles.
6) Early Chevrolet Vega- Not a bad looking car, But
the block was made from aluminum and had no sleeves in
the cylinders to prevent wear- Many engines were
consuming 1 qt of oil every 100 miles, after only
20,000 miles on the car.
5)AMC Matador-
Have you ever seen one of these? It has got to be
one of the ugliest vehicles ever produced. add that to
the fact that nothing ever worked, and parts were made
from Unobtainium, you have a world class loser.
4) the Yugo- A great idea- build a car that almost
anyone can afford.. to buy.. most were Junked at less
than 70,000 miles, due to the fact that replacement
parts were never produced. Build quilty wasn't quite
top notch either.
3)The Ford Aspire.
the name says it all- Aspire to be what?
who the hell designs these things? I wonder who
stepped back, took a good look at the model before
production and said "now that is a great looking car"
2)Hyundai Excel- early 90's-
these cars went through more motors than they did
ties. The metal was so thin that is could be dented by
setting a gallon of milf on the roof. (I've personally
seen it happen) Rusted out after 5 years, and that's
only if the motor made it that long... Hyundais are so
bad that the dealers are instructed NOT to take in
Hyundai trades.
1) Pontiac Lemans-Korean Built-early 90's
I witnessed a person purchase one of these new, and
in the first 3 months of ownsership, the car spent 90
days in the shop. She literally, bought the car, it
broke down (the engine siezed!) after she pulled out
of the lot, and the dealer spend 90 days trying to
locate the parts to fix it. Convinced it was a fluke,
she continued to drive the car, when 3 months after
the engine was replaced, the transmission went.
another 30 days in the shop. After a Myriad of in- and
outs at the dealer, she pursued the Lemon law, and got
a full refund. Then, she went and bought a Hyundai.
Some people never learn!
