While stationed in Puerto Rico in late '60's in the USAF, I owned one. Was
a very dependable car. The feature of the electric clutch, operated by a
switch on the floor mounted gear shift lever, was a very nice specialty.
My wife and I rode it all around the Island with very good gas mileage
(34mpg) and comfort. We sold it to another GI when we left. It was a 1961
model that had been sitting for a year and a half when I got it. It had
rust on the four corners of where the roof meets the body, had the oil in
the air cleaner so thick with a mixture of dirt and oil that it was more
like mud. I cleaned up everything, did the body work (painted white top
and blue body) and only had paid only a $150.00 for the car and $100.00 in
parts for repairs and my labor. Not bad for an E-3 pay. Sold it for
$300.00 after owning it for 3 years, rather than pay to ship it to the US.
Sometimes you can get a good one. Tex.
