just thought i'd add my $0.02 (canadian - not worth a whole lot nowadays) to
this discussion.  the original FISA homologation documents for the Sport
quattro designate it as Audi Sport quattro S1, even though the S1 name as we
all know was launched publically later as an evolution of the Sport.  i
guess it is just a technicality, the S1 (as we know it) was homologated
through a "nachtrag" on the original Sport homologation, not as a separate
model - hence the original model name on the FISA documents remains as
homologated for the Sport.  i guess the name of S1 was already there for
Audi, they just decided to start using it after the evolutionary change in
homologation...

just thought a little more confusion would stir this discussion up further.
