No, that's one of its saving graces. It contains the aforementioned
feldspar, finely powdered, and calcite (calcium carbonate). It does not
contain the silica (quartz sand) found in almost all other abrasive
cleansers. I've never used it on window glass, car or home, but I have
used it in kitchen utensils, including borosilicate glass (most widely
known under the trademark name Pyrex) with no ill effects.
But I'd not recommend it's being used on one's windshield. Feldspar
is just hard enough to scratch windshield glass, although some list
subscribers have apparently used it on their windshields with no ill
effect. Greg Wolters's observation that the can he saw in a store
yesterday bore a caution that Bon-Ami not be used on mirrors or glass is
new. The can we have, which is admittedly several years old, says nothing
of the kind and, in fact, claims Bon-Ami is recommended by Corning Ware,
Pyrex Ware, Rival, Amana, Cuisinart, and a few other manufacturers of
kitchen ware and ceramic tiles as a cleaning agent for their products.
You figure out what all that means.
