Factory boost guage readings

I occasionally see a lister sign their name with the addition of Audi XX, 1.8
bar. Several years ago, I installed a VDO boost gauge in my dash (which
reads in PSI, not bar) so I almost never use the factory gauge. Yesterday
while driving on a long boring stretch of road I switched the computer to the
factory boost gauge to compare readings with the VDO gauge. I was surprised
to see that I also have 1.8, only 1.8 bar - from 12 PSI all the way the 22
PSI overboost. In other words, the factory gauge now stops at 1.8 bar. The
gauge did read accurately at one time - I remember comparing gauges when I
first installed the chip but I can't help but wonder if there are listers
driving around with much more than 1.8 bar but just don't know it.
Is it possible that factory gauge is "blown" (npi) from numerous trips to the
fun zone?
