You probably just need to replace the intermittant wiper relay in the fuse
box. Replacing this  with the stock relay would work fine, but you've now
got an oppertunity to upgrade to a programmable one. That is, you can set
the time delay between swipes while you're driving. Hop down to you're local
VW dealer and pick one up or give wolfsport a visit. (www.wolfsport.com) The
programmable relay is not that much more expensive than stock.

P.S. I had, and loved, one of these relays in my 5k before I sold the car
and forgot to snatch it out!
