ATF to quiet lifters?

ATF actually has a very high detergency which makes for a good carbon
deposit remover. A trick that Honda service shops use to clean up
excessively carbon-ed combustion chambers is to soak each cylinder with
Honda brand ATF for 24 hours. Their ATF is especially high in detergents.

The method goes as follows...
remove the spark plugs and rotate the crank until the pistons are at half
stroke. Then fill the chambers with ATF via the plug opening. Let it sit
for a day then suck out the ATF. There will still be residual ATF in the
chamber, some in the manifolds. Make sure the car is outdoors for the next
step.
Start the car and let it sputter and run until you've burned off the
remaining ATF. Be prepared for the clouds of smoke to result. You should
kill a good amount of mosquitos in the process.

I'd venture to say it should work as a lifter cleaner. But wouldn't an
engine flush like Rislone, and just plain kerosene work faster?

I plan to try Rislone at my next oil change. Hope it will take care of my
noisy lifters.
