gasoline prices/fuel economy

My fuel economy is kinda low in spite of the fact I keep the car in very
good tune. Plugs/wires within the year, new O2 sensor, no vacuum leaks by
the dipstick test, freshly cleaned air filter, new fuel filter, injectors
and seals, new timing belt. I'm afraid it's just me. As an FYI, in
similar types of driving (local) I got just about the same in my 4KQ, but
on pure highway runs I used to get about 27 MPG. I did seem to go slower
doing that though, and getting to speed wasn't as much fun.
