anyone ever rebuilt a rack?

I have rebuilt a few, several years ago.  Kits were available for a few $.
After an unsuccesfull rebuild a problem was found.  The problem that I found
is that there is a crimp joint between the rack and the "piston" and if this
had slipped, the piston wouldn't run true in its bore.  This would take out
the new seals.  So I started measureing runout of the rack/piston and found
most were not true any more due to the crimp joint slipping.  Didn't rebuild
any more.  I suspect that jorgan is welding this joint.
