Drive shaft noise/ AC Compressor

Greetings listers,
Tapping into the collective brain-trust again.
1.) At 210K miles, Gina (5KTQA) has picked up a fast clicking sound
under medium to hard acceleration in 1st and 2nd.
Sound 'seems' to eminate from drive shaft area, under shifter, like a
driveshaft bolt
has worked loose and is hitting.... something. A ringing BRRRRRRR...
I realize that by their nature, driveshaft noises can be misleading,
allowing a 'front end' condition to sound like a rear end condition, and
visa versa,
not to mention a universal or carrier bearing problem sounding like either
end..
Any ideas, until I get the time to jack her up and crawl under?
2.) Has anyone tackled rebuilding a Quattros Nippondenso AC Compressor?
Any BTDTs, tricks or caveats.. like "just don't bother, buy new".
Keeping multiple 200+K TQs on the road is not just a job...
Its an adventure!
Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom.
Thanks to the list, I just "saved" (as far as I know) the radiator fan
by disassembly, cleaning the bearings with carb cleaner, and repacking with
a moly based grease. The brushes looked like new, but the bearings
were sounding gritty, and sure to pack it in once it got really hot.
Best regards,
Mark
