200 rear shocks in a 5KTQ??

Hey!,

I am looking to replace the rear shocks on my 87 5KTQ and remember hearing that on later model 200s that Audi used a larger diameter shaft on the shock where it meets up with the body. I am guessing that this was done for strength? Has anyone fit the newer shocks on the older 5K's? I do not mind drilling and cutting stuff to make it work.
