'84 5000 5-speed conversion questions ...

... well, I am finally in the middle of the conversion for my BiL ... and
there are a couple things that I'm going to need to work out. The one that
has me the most concerned is the mounting of the shifter ... just checked
TFA, and it appears that a different part is attached to the floor pan for
an auto vs a MT. The studs that hold the shifter are in a different place
and the hole that the linkage goes through is much smaller. It almost looks
like I can remove the mounting plate ... it looks like it may be held in
place by JB Weld or something ... any BTDT on this? Otherwise I'll just
take a few measurements and drill and cut ... hopefully I'll be able to get
the console to go back on! I'm also in the middle of bashing the tranny
tunnel to make the accelerator fit ... looks like I need a bigger hammer!
Another thing that has me concerned is that the brake pedal does not return
to the proper rest position ... this project was started by the PO, who
mounted the clutch/brake cluster before abandoning the project. I may be
able to adjust the clevis, but we are talking about 1.5 to 2 inches of
travel.
Once these are resolved I think I'll be set ... hopefully someone out there
who has direct BTDT can pass a bit along. I think that some of the donor
parts for the conversion came from a later model 5000 ... but fortunately I
have an '84 5-speed sitting in the driveway next to the patient! :-)
TIA!
