Radio woes

Hey there,

Many thanks for your help with my insecure steering problem -
problem's being looked at by my local garage (they seem to think it's
the track rod ends - which a number of you also suggested). However, I have
a new and interesting query now! :)

I'm trying to install my Sony CD player in my 1990 Coupe - with not
much sucess. I do believe Audi's of this era were fitted with a
'pre-amp' which would power the rear speakers independantly of the
radio? My existing radio (a Blaupunkt Barcelona) had two standard
looking ISO connectors, plus an extra space for where the pre-amp
plugs in. I took the Blaupunkt out and put it in my girlfriend's VW
Golf (which I've recently re-wired so there's a standard ISO connector
in there) - worked straightaway (no pre-amp plugged in) - no problem there....

However.

My Sony refuses to work with the Audi connectors - everything 'fits'
but there's no power. The cabling is a mess (obviously someone's been
in here before me!) - there are several chopped cables in there and I'm unsure
as to which cable is 'what'. As far as I'm aware, I only need 12v
power, ground/earth and a 12v backup (for storing stations and so on)
- but I can't work out which wire is which - none are the standard
(red = 12v, black = ground, yellow = memory etc) colours and the
standard harness doesn't work...I have spare connectors and so on
here, but I need to know which cable is which? Anyone got a guide?
Tips? Been there, done that stories?

Thanks in advance. :)
