stainless exhaust

I was going to stay quiet about this, but I don't think it's appropriate
to let misinformation stand.
If you have a full stainless exhaust system, you will see far less corrosion
than an aluminized system. There is a reason why companies like Borla
heavily
advertise their million-mile warranty, because it will hardly ever have to
be invoked.
If a system is advertised as stainless steel, it is false advertising if
part
of the system is not. I don't assert that this has never happened, just
making
a point.
However, I believe it would be to your greatest benefit from a
cost/performance
point of view to use stainless mufflers and aluminized piping.
As for personal experience- my turbo quattros have full stainless systems
from
the factory- the primary reason why they have not rusted through with over
10 yrs. and 100k miles on them. Recently, I had the resonator go on me,
which I
did not replace but instead put aluminized piping in place of it. The reason
I chose that route is because I don't plan on keeping the factory system on
the
car for very much longer- I will replace the system with a Scorpion,
Stromung or
a custom mandrel-bent 3" stainless system with Dynomax SS or Borla mufflers
and
possibly a B&B tip, like Frank Amoroso's system.
