Decisions, decisions... (The UrQ POV)

I guess I'll chime in here since in some ways I am in a similar decision
matrix. I've now owned my 1984 UrQ for over 3 years and it is currently
around 125k miles. I can say without any question that it has been the
MOST RELIABLE Audi I've ever owned.

Everyone can stop laughing and calling me a liar now...

I'm really being quite honest. My '84 has given me one problem that
stranded me twice for a short while. The 12v+ lead to the fuel pump was
rusted and causing an intermittent cut-out. Once the connector had been
replaced it is the one Audi out of the many I've owned that is in my
'ALWAYS RUNS' category. A few things of note. It was an Arizona car so
there is little in the way of corrosion. The previous owner kept it pretty
much stock. I immediately changed over to new suspension bushings, struts,
brakes and other normal wear items. I've also changed the turbo to a K24
with the water jacketed bearing, and I only run up to 15psi. It is a very
simple and reliable car.

The issue from my perspective for a regular 1000+ mile trip is that the
stock seats in the UrQ (pre '85) are lacking in lower back support. Were
you to decide and purchase an UrQ I would HIGHLY recommend putting in some
aftermarket seats. Personally I find the UrQ is a great long distance GT
class car and when properly tuned-up gets good gas mileage and a lot of
looks.
