I used either a screwdriver or a socket extension, can't remember which, but 
believe it was an eight inch socket wrench extension, to bridge the 
indentations on the holding collar.  If you can get it off, you can certainly 
get it on.  I did the fuel pump replacement in this manner after sitting and 
studying the job for an hour and a half, and some "fear."  It's been fine for 
4K miles.
