VDO Speedometer parts

I think I got this info from the old two-wheeled BMW
list: http://continentalimports.com/ these guys sell VDO instruments
from all sorts of vehicles and service them too. Supposedly, if you call
and ask for Scott, you also can purchase individual VDO instrument
parts. They're not supposed to sell them, so they don't advertise that
aspect of their business, but they do sell them, according to whomever
supplied the information. Probably good to have all identifying numbers
off the instrument, as well as all the vehicle info, so both sides know
which parts they're talking about. Even better (as an indication of your
ability to reassemble the instrument without causing any problems for
Continental) would be to have whatever parts you want individually
available in front of you when you call. If you can say, "I took this
seventeen-tooth gear off the shaft after removing the three other gears
XXX, etc." to convince them you know what you need and what to do with it.
