Slick 50 was actually tested and used by the Army for
use in helicopter engines. The problem was at very
high RPM's the Teflon separated and formed a glob of
"non-stick crap" which proved very damaging.
Cars don't rev that high so that is not a problem. I
have literature from an independent source "What
Mechanics Don't want you to know" which states the
benefits of Slick 50 and only Slick 50 have been
proven by a real world test. The caveat is PTFE
"itself" is indeed not useful and the makers of Slick
50 are the only producers with a solution that works.
I have used this product since the 80's on every
single car I have owned using either synthetic or
dinosaur oil. It has never damaged my engine and has
quieted noisy lifers or elevated oil burning to some
extent every time. Here is the list:
When in Germany: BMW 318 150k, 525e 190k, 325i 110k
Stateside: Chrysler Le Baron 2.2L 172k, VW Golf 2.0L
60k, VW Scirocco 1.8L 230k, Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L
117k, Audi 90 2.3L 173k. Every one of these cars was
either sold or donated with a working engine.
Now I'm not an independent testing center but I can
safely say, those are all high mileage vehicles. Some
I bought new and others used. I never have had a
problem with clogged filters or "tar" build-up in my
oil pan. Yes I checked most of these.
Rock Shox is using the same substance in Slick 50 for
their Mountain bike shocks because they have found it
lowers slider friction and improves shock performance.
NASCAR banded the use of Slick 50 a few years ago.
The reason given was, "The use of Slick 50 would
present an unfair advantage." Hummmmmmm
